I am happy to report that I got a lot of questions from my readers in response to the Ask Cor post! If I didn't answer your question this time, I promise to in my next batch.
Question: Are white jeans flattering? How do I style them without adding
weight to my frame?—Celeste
Answer: Ah, the age old question. I happen to think white jeans are an extremely difficult
item to pull off. I always find that a slimmer body type looks best in white jeans. I did however start wearing white jean shorts this summer and that
seems to be a better solution for me.
Another great alternative for people that white jeans doesn’t
flatter is a light pastel colored jean. For example, I can not wear white jeans
thus I purchased a pair of light pink jeans and they are amazing!! They have
the look I was going for with the white, but a few shades darker so it
compliments my skin tone well.
You can pick up a pair here: Loft- Cropped Cuffed Jeans
Question: Do you believe in body shapers? -- Annoymous
Answer: I think that if you are going to wear a skin tight dress and may have a little extra junk in your truck OR a kangaroo pouch, it is totally great to wear a body shaper. Now, I find them extremely uncomfortable and I feel like I can't eat or drink to my hearts content when I'm in one (probably a good thing..!) Beware of the shaper causing an overspill of thigh or belly fat though... thats never a good look on anyone. Also, make sure you are incognito in your shape wear.. No one needs to have a Bridget Jones moment... Eeek!

Question: Whats the key to showing the right amount of skin?- Allison
I believe that the key to showing off the right amount of skin is if you are going to have a low cut top-- for the love of god, please cover enough of your bottom. If you are going to wear a short skirt or shorts, cover up your top. You want to make sure you look proportioned. Here are some examples of what I am talking about:
This is an example of disproportional skin showing. Nicki Minaj is giving away too much here. Image via: MyPinkFriday |
Here Kim Kardashian is seen showing her top assets while keeping everything else under wraps. I happen to love this look as it also incorporates the crop top trend we spoke about earlier! Image via: E! online
Question: Are cream colored dresses ok to wear to a Summer wedding? -- Kayt
Answer: I always tend to air on
the side of no white, no cream or nothing of the sorts to weddings. I also don’t think its appropriate
to wear cream or white colored dresses to the bachelorette or the bridal shower.
These moments for the bride are the only time to be the one wearing white, so
stay away and choose a really fun color or a LBD (little black dress) and enjoy yourself!!
Question: What are the new bathing suit trends? Vacation is right around the corner! -- Regina Answer: The summer months are seriously the best time ever! The sun, the pools or even some of you lucky people with the beach at an arms length away! I had to do some investigating but have found the following information on swim suits this season: One emerging trend is the the Retro looking bathing suits! How cute are these!?
(L-R): Mara Hoffman, Ada Zandition, Dion Lee, Michael Kors, Peter Som-- Photo Credit
One of the cutest retro bikini sets I have seen is below and a link to where you could purchase:
Also, ModCloth has some super cute retro bathing suits. Some even qualify for the "the look for less" version of the Michael Kors suit above! Just follow the hyperlink :)
A few other trends emerging are as usual bright colors, one pieces and lace suits! Below are some cute styles to click around and hopefully that will help you on your hunt Regina! American Apparel, Target, Macy's, Nordstrom, and lastly again Nordstrom.
Question: What are good suit and tie combinations-- Todd Answer: I am the first to admit that mens fashion is really not in my wheelhouse. This questions intrigued me in a sense because I wanted to learn what is currently in vogue so to speak in mens fashion. Below are some good combinations to try out: 1) Mismatch your shirt, suit and tie (or bow tie colors) as seen below: Don't be afraid to mix it up and add color! The navy suit and the brown vest really allow the cream checkered blue shit and Yellow bow tie to pop! For cooler weather add the scarf, but there is nothing better in my opinion than a man in a pocket square. It shows you have style, and you took that extra step to complete your look. All in all try a tie that is really loud, because it could end up looking this good. Photo credit Some people don't love bow ties. I however grew up with a dad who wore them all the time and I personally love them! Don't be afraid to try that either! 2) To go for that "classic" look with a color twist, try something like this: This suit is a lovely color of charcoal gray. A very classic white shirt and pocket square are paired and this tie makes the traditional suit and tie look less boring. I love this look! Photo credit 3) Lastly, I found a tumbler account by a man named Dress up Johnny K. Johnny K is not afraid to take major fashion risks and the rewards are outstanding!!! Try visiting his site, but first take a look at his all chambray look: Denim, as we have discussed in the blog before, is incredibly in this season! This look shows how you too can incorporate it into your everyday look while going to the office. This look could transfer from day to night quite well. Don't forget to check out http://www.pinterest.com/source/dressupjohnnyk.tumblr.com/ he has so many great color combinations!! Hope this helps Todd! Readers- This has been so fun for me! I wasn't able to get to all of the questions, but I will get to them in the next installment! Please keep you questions coming to corstyle1@gmail.com OR Facebook, whatever you prefer-- just keep them coming :) Until next time fashion friends XO- Cor |
