Flashback Friday-- Iconic Fashion Moments from Dirty Dancing

I have always had a love affair with Dirty Dancing. This movie has been around for 27 years and I have watched it a million times but always find myself stopping to watch it while its on TV. Its my happy movie, its pretty spectacular and still captivates me to this day. I have loved this movie since I was a preteen when I would sit in my room for hours and watch the dancers foot steps until I could in fact do the dance myself. I was widely obsessed with dancing as a child and I think this movie definitely played a major role in that.

Recently, my obsession came to an all time high when I was reviewing wedding first dance choices with my fiancĂ©. I put on this song and said, "wouldn't it be fun if we recreated the whole dance and had our bridal party also involved" He rolled his eyes and laughed at me because I don't think he thought I was serious until I proceeded to do my dance moves. HA! How fun would that be?? To my credit, he looked impressed!  I may or may not have gotten the idea from this amazing couple below. Can anyone tell I have bridal on the brain? CorStyle may be turning into corBridal.

At any rate, when you think of Dirty Dancing, your mind doesn't gravitate right away to the fashion. I know this, but there are some incredibly iconic looks and moments I thought would be fun to review! Plus any excuse to look at Patrick Swayze as Johnny is good in my book.

First up, here we have Baby aka Jennifer Grey returning from a practice with Johnny. She is looking summer chic in her jean shorts and burnt coral leotard. She even accessorizes with a dark brown belt. I love that the shorts are high wasted and very much the look in the late 80's. She was so cute in this movie, why did she have to go and get a nose job that changed her entire face?? Not the point.

Next, they really are getting deep into the dancing regime and they take a break to dance/canoodle during the day. Thank god Baby's manager "boyfriend" didn't catch them! Here PS is seen in all black, looking as chic as ever. Black is really timeless and JG is seen in a cute crop top and longer than long jean shorts. Again, its the 80's people.. Yikes. I actually have seen long jean skirts coming back in fashion. I am not sure how I feel about those, and we will revisit this topic in an upcoming post.

Moviefone

I think one of my favorite parts of the movie is watching them try to practice the iconic "lift". Johnny does everything he can think of to help Baby perfect the lift. Even taking the practices to the water. Here she is seen in all white everything!! All white outfits are still popular today, especially with the blazing heat of summer. Fun fact I learned from Moviefone, even though the movie is set in upstate New York, most of the outdoor scenes were filmed in the deep South. Pretty interesting!

Lastly, the best last dance we have seen to date in a movie (in my opinion). I love Baby's iconic light pink dress and of course her dancing shoes. Johnny wore his classic and movie standard black on black. If we didn't have this movie scene, we would never have the saying, "Nobody puts Baby in the Corner". That would be an utter travesty.

In closing, it was so fun to revisit the iconic scenes and fashion from this film. Take a peek at the real dance ending and enjoy!

Until next time fashion friends!

Wedding Wednesday- Best Dresses to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Wedding season is upon us and if your like me, you have just started going to all the weddings of the season! My inspiration for this post came from  Elle Magazine . They did an amazing article on the best looks to wear to a wedding and it got me thinking about wanting to give my readers some tips and highlight a few looks for these special days. Weddings are a lot of fun to go to and you always want to look your best for when you are seeing your friends and family! Here are a few rules to get you started: 1) No cream or white-- Please do not be that one person all the others are giving dirty looks to because you wore an all white look to a wedding. I think having cream or white come through in your look in some way is totally great, especially in these summer months. However, just don't have your entire dress be white. I have seen this done before and its not well received. 2) Pay attention to what the invitation says the attire will be-- If the invitation says blac...

Trendy Festival Wear - 2016

Hello there to my favorite readers! Festival season is now officially upon us. One thing I noticed this year is that the fashion retailers are advertising specifically to the festival goer, making it easier than ever to find your perfect look. It doesn't seem like it has changed too much since last year, besides there is even more of a 70's vibe mixed with the 90's in these looks. However, we still have the obvious staples -- the  headbands, the crop tops and the ripped jeans. Lets dive right into some of the best festival looks this season and how they can transition into your summer wardrobe and beyond! Grecian style shoes . I mean, perfection. I mean, say no more! These shorts ,some denim, a big hat and a choker! Your comfy and trendy! Georgy Georg bright colored dress . Pompom Playsuit . Need it! PS, is playsuit the new word for romper!? Braided headband!? I want it and Im not going to a festival! Obsessed with this v...

Dressing Diaries- ASOS Sheath Dress

It's about that time to start another reoccurring series entitled Dressing Diaries . I thought it would be fun to give you a peak into how I style myself and how some of my favorite looks come together. Start of dressing process:  Very late at night, the day before an event (nothing like a fair amount of procrastination), I always ask my sweet  fiancĂ©   to take a picture of my outfit. By the time I get to the pictures, I have narrowed down the look to two or three different choices. PS- this is a really good tip if you haven't tried it before.  I know that sounds funny, but in todays world where there are so many pictures taken its important for you to be able to visualize the final look so you aren't left disappointed. It is also good to be able to see what shoes look best and what accessories complete the ensemble.  Completion of dressing process : I went with nude lace up heels (you can find something similar to purchase here ) and opted...
